First Aid Responder 2 Day Refresher Training

Objectives On completion of this course, participants will be able to: • Demonstrate proficiency in administering a first-aid response • Aid in the rehabilitation of individuals experiencing medical emergencies • Ensure sufficient support is provided prior to the arrival of emergency services • Administer initial medical attention in various settings, including the workplace.

Description

The course program includes the following topics:

    • Meeting legal requirements and understanding the responsibilities of a First Aider in the workplace
    • Conducting patient assessments through primary surveys, monitoring vital signs, and protecting casualties with suspected neck injuries
    • Responding to respiratory emergencies
    • Providing cardiac first response by calling for an ambulance, performing CPR, and using a Defibrillator to follow the chain of survival
    • Dealing with wounds and bleeding, including recognizing different types of wounds, providing appropriate treatment for blood injuries, and minimizing internal bleeding
    • Treating altered levels of consciousness, including shock and recovery position, and assisting a casualty with loss of consciousness
    • Managing musculoskeletal injuries such as broken bones, sprains, strains, and dislocations.
    • Burns and scalds, chemicals, electric shock: causes and treatment of burns, electric shock & electrocution, poisoning

    Assessment 

    On the third day of the course, an evaluation is conducted, which consists of both practical and theoretical components. The participants are required to take a multiple-choice exam and demonstrate their skills through various assessments. To pass the evaluation, participants must score a minimum of 80% in both the theoretical and practical components.

    Upon successful completion of the First Aid Response course, participants will receive certification from PHECC. The certification is valid for two years, and participants will be required to undergo recertification every two years to maintain their certification.
